Meet Amsterdam School's Principal!
Adam Galvin and family

June, 2009

Dear Amsterdam School Community,

It is with great pleasure and promise that I begin the next stage of my life and career as the Amsterdam School Principal.  On behalf of my wife Angela, our daughter Laurel, son Leland and myself I want to express how happy we are to be a part of the Amsterdam School community.

As you may or may not know, I lived in the Gallatin Valley from 1994 to 2000.   During this time, I worked as a teacher and technology coordinator at several schools, including four years at Monforton School. From 2000 to 2005, I served as a teacher and Co-Director at two public charter schools in northern California.  Both schools were started from scratch by a team of dedicated educators including myself.  I served for four years at Redwood Academy Charter School which is today recognized as a California Distinguished School, making it one of the most successful public schools in California. During this time, I completed a Master’s degree in Education Administration at Sonoma State University. From 2005 to 2009, I served as Superintendent/Principal of Arrowhead School in Paradise Valley south of Livingston. Arrowhead is a one school district serving students in grades K-8. It is a very high achieving school with excellent curriculum and a thriving school community.
Prior to making Montana my home, I was born and raised in Andover, Massachusetts where I attended Phillips Academy, Andover.  Subsequently, I earned a BA in psychology at Colby College in Waterville, Maine.  Away from school I enjoy a variety of outdoor activities including skiing, rock climbing, and fishing. I have played and taught African drumming for over a decade, but mostly I enjoy spending time with my wife and children.

Amsterdam School has made great improvement over the past several years and is growing quickly.
These gains should be celebrated and attributed to all members of the Amsterdam School community most notably students, staff, board, and families.

I look forward to continuing the progress you have begun, building on successes and addressing areas of improvement.   Amsterdam School will continue to build a successful and strong future as it grows through the years with the support of a strong school community.  Please join in our efforts to sustain a high quality school and academic program where children grow and learn to the best of their ability and potential.

Sincerely,
Adam Galvin, Principal
