| Meet Amsterdam School's Principal |
Welcome to Amsterdam School!
My family and I feel so fortunate to have the opportunity to be a part of this wonderful community. It has been a dream of mine to live and raise my family in the Gallatin Valley. The beauty of the area, the way of life, and the wonderful people make Montana a great place to work and play.
I originally graduated from Jackson Hole High School in Wyoming and then earned a bachelors degree in physical education from Illinois State University. Upon graduating from ISU I found a great job, then another great job, got married to my best friend, and had a couple beautiful children. I had not intended to get rooted in Illinois and I longed to return to the west.
I have been teaching for twelve years and during that time I have earned two masters degrees. For the last two years I have been looking for a way back out west and if possible to the great Gallatin Valley. This summer while driving to Seattle for my little brother's wedding I applied for a random opening at Amsterdam School. It ended up being a summer we will never forget!
As a family we enjoy hiking, fishing, and camping. I love all sports but most of all swimming, lacrosse, soccer, and tennis. My new obsession is CrossFit which has also renewed my love for weightlifting. For 7 years I was an assistant age group coach for the CATS swim team and for 12 years I coached high school girls lacrosse. I am looking forward to coaching my own children in the near future! Laney is 3 years old and seems to be blessed with a natural soccer kick. Parker is 1 and is really good at running in circles. Though dad hopes that everyone will be swimmers and soccer players, I will also accept them doing whatever makes them happy!
I am enjoying every minute being the principal and the physical education teacher at Amsterdam. I have cherished getting to know the families and staff of Amsterdam School and I hope this is my home for a long time.
I look forward to the rest of the school year and if you ever have questions my door is always open. Please do not hesitate to call or stop by with concerns or compliments!
Sincerely,
Scott McDowell
